BBL 10/22 With Sights?

A buddy of mine wants to update his old 10/22 with some new goodies, but he wants to keep it with open sights.  I have looked and so has he, both of us have not seen any offerings with open sights.  Our local smith could probably tap it, but he's done some work for me in the past and I have not been pleased with it..so I'm trying to keep him away from that option.  I recommended a holo-sight.  See if you guys have any solutions or a link to something I haven't seen yet.  Thanks.

Most of the aftermarket barrels are geared towards accuracy--which means they expect the majority of customers to be using quality glass.

In other words, its gunna be tough to find a good aftermarket barrel that is read to accept iron sights.

However, if you feel like updating your current sights there are a few options...williams fire-sights, tech-sightes, etc. Look around and see what he likes.

If you are ready and willing to drill/tap or have dovetails cut, then mounting virtually ANY iron sights will be possible. As you mentioned, it is important to find a competent and trustworthy 'smith.

Ooops, figured I'd add one more thing!

There is a guy over on Rimfire Central that accurizes factory barrels. He'll set back a factory barrel, rechamber a "match" type chamber, and re-crown the barrel for a fair price....accuracy is increased dramatically, and give you a "stock" appearance, including iron sights.

Green mountain makes a fluted 18" blued bull barrel with Williams fire sights. I recently bought one and a ruger take off youth stock for my daughter. Converted my 10/22 over for her to learn on. The Henry single shot wasn't cutting it for her any more.... Spent a little time sanding the barrel channel to fit the .920 bull barrel and we are now good to go. Shooters discount carries the barrel for 145.00 or you can go the factory barrel route through them. Most are under 40 bucks....
