10/22 barrel lengths
« on: February 26, 2008, 06:18:16 PM »
I see that Ruger 10/22 comes in 16,18,20 inch barrel lengths
Does the barrel length add sufficient accuracy.
I would like an accurate 22 auto for plinking, hunting and some target shooting.
What is a good comprise between barrel length, accuracy, and cost

Any suggestions

Barrel length has nothing to do with accuracy----only velocity and change in handling characteristics.

So as I understand it, barrel length MIGHT MATTER with open sights --longer sight distance.
It should make NO difference if I mount a red dot or scope.

I uses peep and post in the Army with young eyes. How many 10-22 users use peeps?

I have never used a red dot - are they as fast as open sights?. I suppose with old eyes they might be the way to go

Thanks

I think they may be quicker than open sites.  Now that my eyes are pushing 2 score and 6 years the rear site on my H&R takes longer to get into focus, I don't have that problem with the Red Dot I mounted on my daughters Rossi.   My 10/22 is scoped with a Simmons .22 Mag scope.
