I've been shooting my new 308 a few times and am curious if my results are similar to others. At 100 yds' I get .9 inch 5 shot groups w/handloads and .75 to .8 with Federal match ammo. At 200 I'm averaging 2.2 w/handloads and 1.2 to 1.5 with the match ammo. I can't seem to get the velocity that the factory ammo gets based on bullet drop ( I don't have a chronograph). Overall I'm happy with my $600.00 rifle and hope it will improve when I get a better stock.

Sounds about right. That's pretty typical of Remington Varmint rifle performance.

In agreement with GB. Do you neck size only? It will ever so slightly increase case capacity and let you get a little more powder in there for velocity and increase accuracy. Also may be able to play with length. Just for reference, do not duplicate load, this is for fire formed brass then neck sized only. Is above max most likely with full formed brass.

No big deal, I build custom rifles off of 700 actions. You could do the same with them. Just takes a little while to learn trigger control and breathing. I'm not as good as some of the groups I've gotten back from customers.

Here's one Matt Richardson sent. Claimed he was attacked by two mosquitos while printing this 1000 yard group. I have no doubt he was telling the truth. BTW it was still 3.8". I have to cheat and shoot 5 shot groups to stay under my .5 MOA gurantee. Most of the folks who buy them can do it with 10 or more.

Do you build yours with extended mag. box? Of course you probably use a throat that matches the magazine. I have a M700VS & for a factory rifle it is a dandy, but the throat is VERY long & loading the bullets out as far a possible to still feed in the mag still gives me a lot of jump, I am sure that is why the Bergers aren't doing well. But regardless, the 168V-Max is doing great.

There for awhile I was feeling ok about my groups. After hearing about 3 and 4 in. groups at 1000 I'm feeling humbled. I was thinking about having Hill Country Rifles accurize this gun and set it up with a McMillan M40-Al stock. Anybody had any experience with Hill Country?

No sir, I use lilja blanks. Chamber for .308 is cut 2.825" deep. With it that shallow most name brand factory ammo will stay at or near .5 moa just in case they don't want to reload. It slill gives leway for a brand that is a tad long. In your case, extending the mag may be the best bet if you want to do better. If it's good enough the way it is, that's fine too.
I had to put one in a sako trg-42 .338 lapau, to get the bullets long enough. That was a booger bear until I tried a dremel tool to inlet the stock. The only brand I have messed with is Wyatts. Never tried one on a 700 though since I don't use the factory barrel.

I have a 308 VTR and using the Berger 168 vld.  I am using the factory setup and have a long jump to the lands but still getting very good groups.
