Rem 700 ADL
« on: February 07, 2008, 03:46:29 AM »
I just put one on Lay-a-way ($375.00) new in box at a local pawn shop in 243cal.  Personally, I don't like that cal., but if I decide to keep that cal. what kind of accuracy can I expect?  I would like to rebarrel for a 7.62x39.  Whata think?  Thanks guys.  Later.
In Christ,

Joel C.

Personally, I'd keep it as a 243. If you're gonna rebarrel, you'd better check to see if the 7.62-39 has the same rim diameter as the 243. If not you'll either have to rebarrel to a 308 based case or change the bolt face.

The price is OK, but if you play around with rebarreling it, you will be into it for more than you can buy what you want.  Look into a good used rifle.  There are plenty of these around.  If you don't have to have a Remington, look into Savages, you can't beat them for the money!  For a 7.62x39, look into a CZ 527, you can probably get one new for less than you will be paying for the Rem. + rebarreling.

My first store bought rifle in 1966. .243 There wasn't a critter too far that I couldn't kill with it.(3-4 hundred yds) It shot so well you could one hole it at 100 yds. Most any groundhog under 250 yds, I passed . It killed muledeer, white tailseasily at some remarkable ranges. still does.
