Lee,FYI--Mike and I did some under ice beaver.ADC job,got to get in on some under ice snaring. Was in the cities,so lots of people around--snow and below zero temps--kept the gawkers away.
Mike has an auger that fits his cordless drill an ice saw was used to connect the augered holes ,forming the long hole for the snare poles.Still took a lot of spudding.
We did remove the entire colony, with only one sawed beaver tail. One also went home in a block of ice.
Just more economical for me(when fur trapping) to wait for open water.
Andy stopped by on pull day--that boy --needs a lot of spudding practice--what are these schools teaching kids now days????--No spudding classes--how sad.
 Tom

Yep Tom dont know how a kid can survive nowdays without a jacknife in his pocket or squirrel gun in back of his truck... I think they stopped spudding classes when  they figured it was work!    Have to agree with you on open water trapping, i like seeing all the waterfowl returning and  spring popping its head up and geese going north.  Fun snaring bvr  isnt it, i  usually  use snares when  a colony cools off  and we know there are some left . We leave the baited  bodygrips but i put pole sets with snares around and usually first check we have the smarty bvr that were avoiding the body grips. I find ADC jobs alot more profitable than fur prices...  With Andy at least you had a strong back to carry your  equipment and bvr back out to truck.....

Well Tom, it will be last time i will help you,  you smart Azz.   I may not chop thru ice that well, but how many kids do you know, that run up to 30++ traps when i'm going to school and working a part job  in the citys, and i also work 99% of the time by myself and including skining and putting up fur. I cant say i have ever meet someone like that (I wish). But man do i wish they had they have some wildlife class's at my school, Trap and skeet is as close as i can get at outdoors at school.

I will always like helping on the adc line and the trapline. even if its 95 out and i'm raining sweat in my waders trapping beavers.

Thanks
Andy

No tears shed for you here andy.I trapped solo ,put up my fur--but I rode a bike or walked--worked a job and went to school.
AND--learned most everything from reading and my own mistakes---no one took me and showed me how to do it---and there was no internet. You have a lot of resources to learn from, that we didn't have.
Did I mention walking through waist deep snow to get to school?lol
