In mearly trying to generate a conversation, I asked a question that would probably be obvious to anyone that tries to keep up with this forum. I'll try to do better in the future. To those who replied: Thanks!

Kentucky man,

Noticed you did NOT mention the internal cleaning of the case neck area.

Have found this to be an added step that has very positive results.

A tight fitting brass or nylon brush to really clean the inside of the case neck goes a long way in attaining consistent bullet grip and release. My regimen is to make this part and parcel of the case cleanup immediately after returning to the abode from a shooting session.

My case sizing routine calls for enough "bell" to be put onto the case mouth so as to function as a chamber scrapper AFTER the bullet has been seated into the case.

Some of the gurus in this hobby are now advocating full length sizing vs. neck sizing of all fired cases............

Personal experimentation is the name of the game. Everything seems to be in a constant state of flux?

As to loads for 1000 yard shooting? Way too many variables for this unlearned body to expound upon.

My shorter range (BPCR silhouette) experiences are only with black powder which this forum is about.

Windcutter, thanks for your insights. As to the internal cleaning, they were washed with hot water, detergent, and nylon brush all the way to the base before tossing them in the vibratory cleaner for a few hours. They look like new brass, inside and out.

I understand that I can't start at 1000 yards, that's just a goal on down the road. I figure I'll start at 50 yards move to 100, to 2, 250, 3, and so on. I know that I can get 70 gr. FFF, card wad and bullet in the case and chamber the round, but that seems to be an awfully lot of compression to start with.?? I just figure some of you with much more experience would have a better idea of where to start.

I hope Rdnck jumps in on this one, cause I'm only passing on what he told me - don't worry that much about powder charges, this isn't smokeless where a grain or so makes a big difference. Goex apparently likes a significant degree of comperssion, .25 isn't uncommon. Swiss apparently shoots better without compression. This is one of the variables you have to work out for your rifle, and can only do this by shooting.

Load 'em up and make and keep good records. Then do it agani, changing only one variable, and keep on untll you accomplish your goal.
