Re: Handi extractor vs ejector

I just purchased a hand-rifle 270 after having owned a NEF 20 Ga. (my first gun), for many years my 20 has worked flawlessly clean, dirty, cold, hot whatever the case i had no problems ever that i can remember.  Yesterday when i got home with my 270 i was mounting my scope, while checking for clearence of the hammer i noticed my extractor was not moving, upon removing the forend the cam extractor/ejector fell out along with the pin, as of right now its at my local gunsmiths getting the extractor replaced.  I was able to find a little bit of information on the handirifle, on H&R's website they have the owners manual on  line and the SS 270 it says has an "automatic ejection" feature, that while using extreme caution you are able to catch the round in the air while holding the rifle in the other hand, if this is true then maybe you should just order the stainless 270 and solve the problem of actually removing the round from the chamber. being that i still have not fired my handi-rifle yet im not sure if this is true or not, ill post as soon as i konw

also would there be any problem firing superX silver ballistics out of the 22 inch barrel??

Welcome to GBO! ;) Current production centerfire rifles have extractors, spring ejectors are no longer available on them with a few exceptions, you can see the difference in the FAQs and Help sticky which should be manditory reading for newbies.  ;D You could have sent the rifle in after calling H&R and made arrangements for them to cover shipping or issue a call tag, but they'd fix it for nothing or send you the parts to fix it, free, they're easy to work on. That would be incorrect on the automatic ejectors, the only barrels that still have those are older barrels, shotguns and rimfire,  either that are still on dealer shelves or if H&R just hasn't run out of those barrels yet.

You can use any factory ammo you want 270 ammo you want, you may need to try several to find one that it likes best. ;)
