I normally fish a lake that offers trout, kokanee, catfish, bass, crappie, and sunfish. I normally target kokanee.
I know that the trout and kokanee are normally found in the 50-59 degree tempature range. This time of year I drop my downrigger down to 50 to 85 feet to catch fish. I adjust the depth of the downrigger to the depth of the schooled fish I see on my fishfinder. Guess I need to get to the point.
Is there a "lapse rate" to determind water tempature at different depths. Does the tempature of water decrease at a fixed rate when undisturbed by inflow, wind, wakes, shading, and other factors. Many of todays fishfinders provide surface tempature.
I suspect this is a clear as mud.
