445 super mag, anyone...
« on: January 20, 2008, 08:32:45 AM »
I'm considering a 445 super mag for my Contender.  First off, I must ask ,  will the Contender handle the 445 ?    Anyone shooting a 10 or 12 inch barreled 445 ?  If so, how does it handle 44 Mag ?  Does the long chamber affect your accuracy ?  Last question, will 44 mag dies load the 445 ?   Thanks, if the answers are right, I'll have a SS Encore in the classifieds, with a 44 and 460 barrel.   Mike

If you use the search function for 445, uncheck Check All then select  the TC handgun and the TC Rifle forum, you'll get lots of hits, the search button is just below the google seach box.

I have a factory Contender 445 SM that shoots  a 320gr cast at 1500 fps into small groups at 50 yds with a Leupold 4x scope. The 445 SM will probably do 1600+ with a 320gr cast but really no need for it.

I got one this week.Well it's a 44 mag rechambered 14" tube.I love it so far I have been making brass from 30-40 until the new brass gets here.I have shot 2" groups at 50 yards with iron sites pretty good for my tired old eyes.Recoil is pretty strong but no worse than mt 454,375 or 45-70 .

When I started with my DW revolver, we made cases from .30-40 because there was no factory brass.  IHMSA had made a small run and they ran out even with only selling to members.

the performance in a buddy's sillhouette gun is astounding and it knocks an evil channel through a deer or elk too.

Ms Hitman : what gun don't you have ?  I want one of those what ever it is... (sub caliber or not.lol)
if a hurricane hits your area and you got to get out... you have a trailer big enough for the guns that don't fit in your van ?? and a map for the wife and kid to catch up to you and the guns down the road ? I know you got priorities..and all...

IROLD, I`ve been deer hunting with a 16" 445 SM for the last 3 years.  Love it !!!!! Great performance with both the 300 gr XTP and 270 gr Gold Dot.  It`s my all time favorite !!!

Well, here is an e-mail we received from a customer about his recent experience with the .445SM

" I shot a hog, today, with your 300g hardcast load. I have never knocked a hog down over 300 lbs, instantly, until today. I mean dead and no movement from a lung-heart shot. No rifle has produced this result without a head shot. I would like you to know that I am very happy with your ammo. It's better than my reloads and much more accurate. I will recommend it to all of my "big bore friends"!"
