Allen wrench to adjust engagement on early contender
« on: February 13, 2008, 05:47:13 AM »
What size is that really small allen wrench that you set sear engagement with in the pre G2 days? Where is the best place to get one? I am a machinist, have hundreds of small allens and not one fits that screw.

I haven't adjusted my old Contenders trigger for many years but remember the size to be either .050 or .0625.

Neither set screw actually adjusts engagement. One adjusts take up and one adjusts back travel.

They are .050" allen wrench size.

PM me an address and I'll mail you one.

I figured it was engagement because you could turn the screw in till the hammer drops. I just sent the frame in to TC for a check up, for headspace issues.

If you adjust the take up screw in far enough it will trip the hammer (has the same effect as pulling the trigger). Then it will not let you cock the gun at all.

Eklind Tool Co., Chicago,  makes a folding set of allen wrenches (8 wrenches ranging in size from .050 to 5/32).  It is their Model No. 81.  This tool or a similar one will handle the trigger adjustment on the contender along with many other tasks.  Mine stays in the range bag that always accompanies me to the range.  TC also has a multi-purpose tool that includes the .050 wrench, along with the various screwdrivers for the Contender, and .410 choke wrench.  Very handy.
