32 H&R mag
« on: February 21, 2008, 11:26:16 AM »
I'm loading for a S&W 16-4 6'' and a Ruger SSM in 32 H&R mag using RCBS 98gr lead SWC  and Hornady 85gr xtp's . Whats the most consistently accurate  powder for the 32. Thanks.

Since 1985, the most consistant for me with either bullet has been 800X.  Find a copy of Ken Water's Pet Loads.  While 800X may not be the very fastest (but certainly no slouch) or have the most muzzle blast, it has always been the most accurate in both my Single Six and 631.

I had great results with the 85 Hornadys loading W231.  AA-9 worked better for high-power loads with the RCBS 98s.

I tried Lil'Gun with 100 XTPs and while it gave high velocity its accuracy was not as good as other powders - in my SP101 anyway.

for high velocity i like lilgun aa9 and 110 in that order and for plinking ammo i use alot of bulseye and aa2. If that bullet is the rcbs 98swc its a real fine bullet. With any of the first three powders ive had much better luck using mag primers. As a matter of fact i use mag primers even with aa2 which shouldnt need them but ive got better luck with accuracy with them. Lilgun isnt my favorite powder. As a matter of fact i dont care for it much at all but it really seems to come alive in the 32mag.
