big bullet for coyotes

last night i used an '03 chev venture bullet with 87 octane at about 55mph to take a large yellow coyote. seriously, i have never seen a coyote so quick to jump out in traffic. as i slowed down it veered up the road to avoid me then jumped in front of the van before i got stopped. maybe it had been chasing a deer or something and i interupted the chase. like wiley e. coyote always got.

Well, considering you whopped him with about 354,253 ft lbs of energy(if my figuring is correct?), I'd say you were using "enough gun"  ;D.

I'm curious though  ???, how was the penetration on such a blunt bullet design at such a low velocity?  ;D :D ;D

Well those diesel cartridges are a whole different animal.  Don't get me wrong, I like the smoke and the nostalgia, and have even managed to take a few deer with mine, but a high speed, lightweight smokeless car is a better choice for coyotes, IMHO.   ;D

That  is alot more user friendly then tagging one with a motorcycle :o ;D
Had one run out in front of me on my bike the other day. I missed the tip of his tail by a foot scared the tar out of both of us.

Critters of any type and murdersicles are a bad combination on the road!  I got to agree with 'bassman:  "a high speed, lightweight smokeless car is a better choice for coyotes, IMHO."    ;D

Saloon slug:  That was your lucky day when you missed the coyote or he missed you.

I was following a motorcycle up a paved mountain highway when a two-pound gray squirrel ran into the roadway.  The rider was entering a curve and had a slight lean.  I do not think he seen the squirrel, because on impact he popped off the seat and crashed down on the pavement.

Fortunately the rider was wearing full leathers and a helmet.   He lost some blood from biting he tongue and gums.  He had a hard time talking with the blood bubbling out of his mouth. 

There was a question of taking a squirrel out of season; there would be not question when it comes to yellow coyote.

Good shooting. I`ve tried that and did roll one that I had already hit with a .204 and he still got away. I`ve tried on other occasions, but never managed to hit them. One of the funniest things I ever watched was a couple of the neighbor boy out in my field with their pick-up chacing a coyote in 6 in. of snow. Even with the snow I`m sure that chisel plowed field was alittle rough. Definately worth the price of admittion.

Took a friend out one night to call coyotes.  She had never seen any here in Alaska.  Called for about an hour and a half at three different locations.  Got lots of answers but none came in.  Finally after we went back to the base, as I drove by the power plant a coyote ran out in front of the Nissan.  Blip blip, got a coyote, and it was rather fur friendly.

On 'yotes its not too bad, but for the cost of re-loading  on deer either choice of caliber is rather difficult, and one doesn't even think of buying factory rounds for each hunt.
