Putting my 700 back together?
« on: March 19, 2008, 03:51:51 PM »
Hey guy's. As you guy's may know I have had a really rough winter. I lost my pick up truck that I payed 4 years on and over $20,000.00. Looks like I am back to work. I just landed a couple decent jobs. Looks like I can put my Remington 700 back together in the next few weeks. I have decided I am putting a Super Sniper fixed power 16x40 on it. That is $300.00. I told my wife it would take about $500.00 to put it back together. So I really only have another $200.00 for a stock. I have a friend on this forum that can hook me up with the a original SPS Varmint stock at a real good price. I am leaning toward that way. I could get the original stock and the SS scope. Then sell the original stock down the line. I would then have a complete rifle again. Do any of you see a way I could get the Super Sniper scope and a aluminum bedded stock for $500.00? Any info. that would help would be great. Thanks Dale

Dale, you can get a Hogue overmolded stock with full aluminum pillar bedding block from MidwayUSA for $200.  They are not the most eye appealing or glamorous but they work well.

...Or snag an used H-S from ebay or shooting/hunting forums. They are available all the time for 150 to 200.00.

An used H-S stock usually means -Like New- because for the most part, the guys who use them are anal about taking care of their gear. I lost out on many used ones because I hesitated for just a moments time.

No I do not need that one now. Let me know when you are headed to Pa so we can get together and shoot some Groundhogs. Dale

I been thinking of painting it Pittsburgh Steeler gold. I don't think the Groundhogs will mind the color much. It is Olive drab green now and don't look to bad. I may just leave it as is. I will be putting a H&S Persision stock on it sometime this summer. I just can't wait to order the scope. Every review I read on these Super Sniper scopes give them real high marks. Dale

Yeah not much to report on the Super Snipers. They are tools, they do the job intended as good as scopes that cost several times more, can't ask much more than that :)

Dale you may want to rethink painting the green stock incase you sell it after you get the H-S model. It will bring more $$ being OD green. That Dicks one brings in more $$ than the regular black one. The sale of that could offset the cost of the new one. You could get 85.00 for it easy, just a thought :)

I had no idea that the green ones sold for more money. I will probably leave this one be. I thought of maybe painting the two rough inserts black to make it look like the VTR stock. Dale

The green ones are limited because they only come from Dicks which you know. The forums where I've seen them posted, there are 20 replies asking "is it the green one? If so, consider it sold", so the demand is there. I saw 1 go for $92.00, which is a LOT for that thing. If you paint it post pics :)
