Do H&R/NEF Barrels Interchange?

Just a quick question about barrels. I was just in the classified section and noticed a lot of barrels for sale. I thought they had to be fitted to the frame at the factory or by a gunsmith! Do the barrels interchange as long as they are going on a frame that was originally made for that caliber?

Some do, some need fitting, ya just takes your chances, any barrel can be made to fit if appropriate for the type of frame, see the barrel fitting info in the FAQs and Help sticky. Most folks buy em, try em, if they don't fit, sell em. But I've fitted at least a dozen barrels using my barrel fitting info and probably twice that many have fit with no changes, but the advantage of having multiple frames is you'll just about always have a frame that a used barrel will fit with no changes or just minor fitting. Read thru the FAQs, there's a multitude of things in there that you need to know.

Thanks for the info and the quick reply. I always thought they would with minor fitting.

Ditto that. Buy and try. If your willing, fit it up or pass it on I guess. There are many here that have over come that fear of fitting them up, but like Tim said having multiple receivers is a plus.
