scope ??
« on: February 21, 2008, 11:17:45 AM »
I am needing a new scope for my 14" 357 maximum barrel what would be a good scope other than burris or leupold thinking about simmons bushnell or weaver. I would like a variable power I have a old tc 1.5 on it now. thanks for any thoughts

I am no expert by any means. I do know that Natchez Shooters Supplies has the Bushnell 3200 Elite 2x6 fire fly recticle for only $149. I have one on my pistol and from looking around.............even though the ff recticle is pretty thick I think it's a pretty darn good pistol scope for the money !!

The Bushnell Trophy and Elite 2-6 scopes are both excellent.

You DO NOT want the Firefly reticle hardly anyone does that's why they are so cheap no one will buy them.

the Bushnell 3200 with fire fly does have thick cross hairs but for heavy cover they will be good.
and the price can't be bet.

Of course I could be wrong, but I think cheap scopes are a waste of money. They either do not hold up or have optical problems that are worse then nothing. I suggest you get the Burris or Leupold and don't look back. I have many different scopes on a lot of handguns, the BEST is the Leupold ! A very close second is the Burris. A fixed 4x should do you quite well on that 357max.

I do not think you are wrong.  Instead of buying a new, low quality cheap scope I get a Leupold or Burris used off eBay, etc.  That way you pay half or less of the new scope price and still get top quality.  Those two brands have lifetime warrantys so if they have a problem they're repaired for free.  This is far better than suffering through the issues of a cheap scope.   ::)

Personally I prefer the newer Burris 2x7 variable.  Reasonably small, great sight picture, and I paid about the same as I did for a brand-new Simmons 2x7.  There is no comparison between the two except for the magnification.
