No, it don't seem right, Howie.  I'd of paid a modest fee to drop over and take care of those rascals.

the guy doesn't realize the $ he could make by allowing hunters to come out and hunt hogs.  THat or he may be like alot of ranchers.  They hate feral hogs, they don't want the liability of strangers hunting their land, so they would jsut as soon, kill em and dump them.   Maybe you can buy the man a cup of coffee some cold morning and talk it over with him.  maybe he will allow hunters to come out and hunt, rather thanshoot and dump the critters.   Might be worth a try.

Thats not right, I have lost my place to hunt for about 6 months now , adn people like that are just taking it for granted, when we could go out there have fun and put meat in the freezer. Does anyone know of any private land around the Kaufman area?

It seems awful wasteful from a hunters point of view. But  some landowners seem to give little concern.

    Craig,

Call the Kaufman County Chamber of Commerce and get a list of hunting leases in your area.

You all are right. And I stand behind each and every one of you. BUT there is THE OTHER SIDE... Not knowing were or why the rancher killed the hogs I will try to give the other side.... Here in Northern Calif. there are a lot of feral hog. A lot of ranchers have started allowing hunters in to hunt for a fee. The hogs are doing a lot of damage to privet land by rooting up land used to graze livestock as well as fence damage. No  rancher likes to find a half eaten new born calf or lamb. As you boys well know the feral hog will eat just  about anything that stands still. Here on the 3 ranches that I have to hunt there used to be more turkey hunting then one could wish for.  How you may see only one or two birds. The hogs are eating the turkey and quail eggs. The deer heard has suffered do to hogs killing fawns and eating the acorn crop in the fall that carry tha deer over in the winter. The coyote is even being inpacted no by the hog eating dead animals .
Now a hog or two is one thing. But when you come across a herd of 40 or so sows and piggelets.  You are looking at the amount of  feed that they rooted up durning the night. Your have to feed hay to your cows becaues there is no feed... You should see what a herd of hogs can do to a walnut orchard and the irrigation system in one night.. You get rid of the problem.
Now the rancher can sell hunting rights. But taking hunters out takes time from the ranch chores. But here lies the other problem... The hunter... Now 99% of the hunters are good hunters. But that 1%that puts a sower taste in the ranchers and his fellow ranchers mouth.... The hunter that go out at night and cut fences, hunt with there ATV and trespass also causing damage to tha land . Spooking livestock through fences and shooting livestock for what appers " the hell of it"...

Like I said I do not know why the rancher killed the hogs... But maybe at the time it seemed the path of least resistance to take care of a big problem. It may not be lack of concern.  Just tired of lossing money.
