skate board tape
« on: February 15, 2008, 06:52:15 AM »
On another site, I saw several front straps adorn with coarse (look like 20 grit) skate board tape I live in a rural area, and skate boardin aint that big around here. It looked like a great idea though. Wonder where a fella could get some of that stuff.

You can order it through most of the supply stores such as Mid-South. They carry all kinds of tape and grit.

Thanks Lloyd, I thought about that. Is the adhesive pretty good on that stuff?

Hey two dogs, let me know if you can't get it I have 2 skate shops around me and i think its like 6-10 bucks for a 10"x30" strip. Be glad to mail it to you for price of material only. And that stuff will stick to anything.

I cut up a 60 grit adhesive backed sanding disk and put that onto the front strap of my 1911.  Adhesive backed sanding disks or sand paper are readily available at hardware stores or home improvement centers

j two dogs - you can also use 'grip tape'.  It is the stuff they wrap around tennis racket and handball grips.  I'm not so certain the adhesive is any better than with any other tape but it provides a very good grip.  I have used the grit papers before and different tapes and none really work any better, in my opinion.  The Grip Tape is available at sports shops, bike shops, skateboard shops and possibly even sporting goods sections of larger chain stores.

One word of caution - the grit on the skateboard tape is pretty heavy and the adhesive is pretty serious stuff - which translates to 'I don't know how tough it would be to get the stuff off'.  HTH.  Mikey.

i did this to my 45. skip the skate board tape,  go to your hardware store and get the non slip tape for steps.  this stuff is great.   it should cost you about 40 cents for one gun.   my only complaint is that i can only find black tape,  and my gun is stainless.  but,  function is more important than looks to me.
when it comes  time to take it off, if you have problems you can use lighter fluid to remove the adhesive.   put a little on a rag then wipe it over the adhesive.
