Contender Holster
« on: February 16, 2008, 09:00:22 AM »
Looking for some input on a good hunting holster
for my scoped 16" Contender.
I have an Uncle Mikes that worked OK with the old scope
But I rescoped with a Burris 2.5X7 that sits back further
and I can not close the holster.
Thanks everyone.

When Fox Ridge Outfitters was part of the T/C website you could get custom leather holsters but I am not sure now.  Might be able to contact T/C and ask them.

There's a fellow that makes custom holsters for Encore's and Contender's that posts around here. I just lost the info. They looked pretty good, and he garantees them. You can get them in several camo patterns.

Anyone have the info for these holsters? I'd like to get one myself

I have a very well made lined leather bandoleer holster made for long barreled Contender/Encore pistols.    Have never tried a 16 1/4" in it, but 14" barrels work fine.   With a 16" some of the barrel would be hanging out the bottom.   Can't remember who made it, but its similar to the MR BFR rigs made for long barreled revolvers (minus the thumb break release).    Will work with open sights or scope because the scope is not inside the holster.    The scope does need to be mounted high enough for the leather to slip between its objective bell and the barrel though (3/16" minimum, 1/4" is better).   You might watch the classifieds for both it and an unused UM camo bandoleer for 14"/15" TC's to be listed soon.

Evolution at work. Over two million years ago the genus Homo had small cranial capacity and thick skin to protect them from their environment. One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus

I don't know of any of the mass producers that make a holster for the super 16.  I carry mine with a sling.  Used to carry my 14 inch with an Uncle Mikes shoulder holster and it was awkward.  Went to a sling with that also.  Would like to have a holster that can be used when riding a horse, like a saddle scabbard.  Used the Uncle Mikes for that and it worked with modifications.  Some of the leather guys could make one to your liking (Pistol Packaging, etc).  My Uncle Mikes holster came with a flap that completely covered the gun and you could remove the flap (just snapped on) and install a strap (that came with it) if the scope was too long.  Don't know if yours has that feature or not, just a thought.

quiethide holsters is the best holster. He makes them custom and cost is very reasonable.

I have read some good feedback from posters about these holsters. I'm wanting one for my scoped 14" Contender for little piggies...

Hi All,
I build to customer specs/needs/wants. Mine aren't as inexpensive as production holsters, but the aren't made in China (or wherever) either! But still a very good value, all aspects considered.
Just a few pics ;D

Well, that gives a little idea of what I have done, but far from all.

Its allot easier to see the quality of your product
