shot my handloads today
« on: February 24, 2008, 12:23:55 PM »
well, in the rifle section i posted a range report.
so, i figured i post here about it too, but from the handloading view.
i shot 10 rounds of my own today, i put the though of them being my loads in the back of my mind and focused on a good group and scope zero.
i got 2 seperate groups, both about 2 inches at 100 yards. they were hornady jhp 300gr. over 47 grain of H4198, winchester brass and primers.
nothing unusual stood out, they all seemed very uniform in recoil, report and accuracy. and the fired brass all looks the same.
the 10 rounds were the first rounds fired from the barrel, so guess i did ok.  it was alot of fun firing my own rounds and i think i got a good start on this handloading stuff, lol.
for the finale, i filled two 2 liter pop bottles with water, and set them out at 100 yards. i hit them both, and they just exploded ! nothing left but a few pieces of plastic.
what fun , woo hoo..

When it gets warmer try a water melon  :o  all i can say is WOW , you get the red mist of P-dogs with out the trip .

Next thing you'll be having dies for guns you don't even own just because you found them at a good price .  ;) and all kinds of assorted peices & parts & gadgets .

Welcome to the money saving world of handloading .  ;)

+1 to Stimpy
I have dies that I don't have guns for and wont have the guns for awhile if ever. I got hooked on hand loading when I was a kid its almost as much fun as actually shooting some thing. Sounds like ya done good.

I realize I was hooked when I was out at a shooting pit just out of town and started picking up anything shiny... brass that looked good, even though I didn't have the gun for it.... yet.

Oh snot !,
i did that, i was with a buddy and he was shooting too, i picked up all his brass and saved it.. guess what i was thinking ( heck, i can reload this and maybe use it later  :o )
i was just so thrilled to sqeeze the trigger and have my loads go Boom.. and the fact that they seemed consistant and fairly accurate was a real bonus.
