What do you run in your boat?

I have always ran JohnnyRude's brand in my current rig. Back when I had a Merc, I ran Quicksilver. We've got a guy locally who trades chainsaw oil with another dealer for outboard oil, and we can buy it from him about 4 bucks cheaper than Wal Mart or the marina, still, there are cheaper brands out there like Penzoil etc.

What do you use?

Can't remember the brand name at the moment. All I have is in the oil tank in the boat, but it's a synthetic that I buy at Wal Mart. It costs a little more than Quicksilver/OMC oil, but I am a believer in synthetics. I use it in everything I own. Oil is not the place to skimp in internal combustion engines. The stuff is so good at reducing friction that if you put it into a new engine you will have a hard time getting the rings to seat in! I am still running strong with my 89 Johnson GT.

Do you still have the auto oiler hooked up on yours? Mine's a 95 model, and it blew up on the previous owner when the oiler quit. When I bought it, I had it disconnected, and just mix it myself, that way I know. I always short my fuel just a hair to give it extra oil. On a quart of oil which is 12 gallons at 50:1, I usually put in 11 gallons of fuel.

Yep, the VRO is still going strong on my old GT 150. It's a different system on your motor. Mine is one unit that pumps the fuel and oil. If it goes out the motor won't run. This has been a good one, hope I'm not on borrowed time.

Just bought another couple of gallons of oil at Wally World. The oil I use is the Penzoil Synthetic and the cost is about $4 higher than the OMC or the Quicksilver. The store brand oil is $6 a gal. Wish I knew who makes it for WM. bet it's either OMC or Merc.

I had to rebuild the carbs in my 60 Evinrude because the previous owner left gas and oil in the carbs. It totally destroyed two float bowls, three floats, three high speed jets and one intermediate air bleed jet. (it crumbled). After the rebuild I was trying to decide what two-stroke oil to mix with the gas. (VRO disabled) all my shop manual said was Evinrude outboard motor oil or any oil with TCW-3. So, I've been using a wide variety of brand name oils since, just so long as it's TCW-3. I guess they all have that now, but does the brand make a difference? My engine runs like a scalded dog now and I want to keep it that way.

Mixing oil and the banning of 2-cycles on many of the lakes is why I switched to 4-cycle. I put a Honda 50 hp on my home made 'Bass Boat'. Before I switched I used Pennzoil Synthetic in my Merc. By the way how many lakes in your areas are being closed to 2-cycle motors? Lawdog

We don't have any lakes in my area that are closed to two cycle motors. The newly engineered DI two strokes are about as clean as the four strokers. Bet the California statues cause a lot of the four strokes to be purchased though.Bet the outboard manufacturers love that!

All areas in TN. are currently open to two strokes, It'll change over time though, I'm sure. Next bass boat will have a 4 on it I think, I like my 2 stroke better though.
