What Does It Fit?
« on: February 24, 2008, 04:47:18 PM »
Can anyone help me determine what frame my barrel fits? It started life as a 22 REMINGTON JET but it has been re-chambered to a 225 WINCHESTER. It is 22" long with a ramp front sight and a fold down rear sight. On the left under side of the barrel just above the lug it is stamped with the number 7410. It has the old snap on forearm. I have tried it on several SB1 & SB2 frames but it will not close all the way. I do not have an old shotgun frame to try it on. Any ideas? I picked it up some where cheap because I love the caliber.

Thanks LONGTOM

Check FAQ on dating your handi . I think it was around 1972 they had a snap on forend. Now you have a Quest to find a frame it fits it . I like 225 also

It was offered on the M158, but likely was also on the M088 too IIRC.

My barrel looks like the one in the photo on the link you gave. Is that just a plain topper shotgun frame or strictly a rifle frame?

The old H&R that went out of business in 1986 only made one frame for the most part, there were some different versions with different firing pins for muzzle loaders, they were all made of ductile iron, more commonly called cast iron, they were relatively weak compared to a modern SB2 frame, they were only issued with low pressure rifle chamberings as well as shotgun barrels. Please see the Shotgun/rifle frame info near the top of the FAQs and Help sticky.  ;)

Sorry I was away for a little while. Thanks for the info. I guess I should can the barrel and get a new 223 and re-chamber that. At least I would know what it fit and it should take the pressure.
