Scope for .223
« on: July 07, 2003, 07:44:05 AM »
I've got a new 13" .223 barrel on the way.  What scope magnification are the 223 shooters using?  Shots in my area are usually limited to 200 yds max.  I'd prefer a fixed power scope.  Any recomendations?  I've got a 1.25-4 on my 30-30, like it a lot, but would like a little more power for the 223.  Thanks.

Burris 3-12X A/O ballistic plex on T/C Super 14 SS.

I used this last weekend to make some 220 yard shots on PDs. Measured with a laser rangefinder. It was too windy to connect any longer.

I had a 4 power replaced it with a 2 x 7. The higher power is great for paper punching the lower for hunting.

Bushnell Trophy 2-7X is pretty hard to beat for the money, works great on mine   :)

and if you want to spend the money, the 3x12 burris is top notch. too bad they are so expensive, i love em.
i have a 4x12 simmons riflescope on my .223 barrel. but it's not for everyone. try it you may, or may not like it. i do fine with it so far for my use. i shoot blue dot powder with 40gr noslers, which eases the recoil a little. it doesn't whack my nose anymore :)

I've got a 2.5-7x Simmons on mine.  I only use mine for punching paper, though.

Thanks for the input.  I'll probably end up with a 2-6X Bushnell.  May consider a 7X Tasco Custom Shop.  Have a chance to buy one at a pretty good price.  Not sure though.  Never been a big fan of Tasco products.

Don't forget to look at a Weaver 2.5-8x! I've got two of 'em and am very happy with them. Clear, and they won't break the bank either. My .02

I have a 2 X 6 Bushnell on my 223 and 7-30 waters barrels. Both barrels are 14 inchers. The farthest I have shot a chuck is 180 yards using a fence post as a rest.
