What about Milsurp!
« on: February 23, 2008, 05:00:40 PM »
I never hear anyone talk about shooting military surplus ammo in a commercial .223. Does it work? Does it mess up the barrel? Years ago I took military surplus brass and necked it down to .222 for a contender pistol I had--the brass was thicker than commercial brass, and lasted longer for reloading. RCBS made dies for renecking, and then for cutting the brass shorter for the .222. I believe I still have them, but don't have a .222 anymore.

What about the pressure? I know that military .223 is loaded hotter than commercial .223, but I wouldn't think that a single shot rifle would have any problem handling the military stuff. With the military brass being thicker I would think that you would get more life out of the brass if you were reloading it.
