30-30 AI
« on: March 01, 2008, 05:22:19 AM »
Anyone shooting the 30-30 AI and any advice on loads?  What I've found on line is very limited and certainly not T/C pistol length orientated.  I acquired both a 10" Herrett rechamber and a 14" factory super 14 but my bias runs toward the 10" contenders.  Thanks, Brian

I really like the 30-30 AI.  The one I had was a 14" 30 Herrett re-chambered to 30-30 AI.  Very Accurate.  Consistant sub MOA with Nosler 150 BT's and Hodgdon Varget.

However, I wouldn't personally do a 30-30 AI on a 10" barrel.  If it's still a 30 Herrett, I'd keep it as a 30 Herrett.  But that's ME.

On a 14" bbl, I think it's an excellent choice, and hot on the heals of the 309 JDJ.

Thanks, I'll have to give Varget a try if I keep the 14".  The conversion was previously made on the 10" and that is certainly a lot of powder to try to burn in a 10" barrel.  I got a chance to shoot it yesterday to do some fireforming using both Blue Dot and 4195 and based on how light recoiling and accurate the Blue Dot loads were, that Blue Dot may be all I shoot in it.
