What do I do now? (Range Report!)
« on: February 25, 2008, 03:42:23 AM »

Winchester Super X Power Point 130g.

Shots 3-9 out of my new Remington 700 ADL. 1 & 2 were 8" to the left about 3" apart.
The scope was adjusted between groups.
I also tried some 150g. They grouped about 1.5" and .5" lower than 130g.
I think it's a keeper!

So much for break in and load development.
What will I do until deer season?

Now you and some buddies take your rifles and go on a walk.  Set up targets randomly in the forest, walking through and find them, and shoot a three shot group, as you would at a game animal, at each of these targets.  Lowest average group wins.  <- winner buys the beer.

Actually I have more plans for this rifle.
It would make a fine deer rifle for someone as is now,
but I'm not that sort of fella.

There is a Simmons Master Series Pro hunter on back order from Midsouth.
The cheapo that came with the gun is not so clear.
I will work up some loads for it even though there isn't much to gain accuracy wise.

Yes Nonya I have a lot of practice at longer ranges to take care of.
As soon as I get the new scope and some sleeker bullets.

I feel sorry for the yote that walks out in front of this thing.

  • When it ceases to be fun, I shall cease to do it.

There is always something else to do....though it appears there is nothing you need to do beyond raising your family and teaching them to share in the joy and enthusiasm that you have with your rifles/hanguns/shotguns. There is a legacy for you to create and be remembered by ie. My Dad sent my Grandfather a target that he had shot with a new load from his 257Roberts. The holes left by the five rounds could be covered with a quarter. Later that week, my Grandfather sent my Dad a target that he had shot with a load that my Dad had worked up for him several years earlier, also from a 257Roberts. Five 'boxes' of cartridges into a 50-cent hole.

Note: Both rifles are Remington Model 722, both have Weaver K2.5 scopes from the early 50's, both have custom stocks carved by my Dad - and both rifles are on my riflerack. Those two targets are in my reloading cabinet - a Legacy to be passed down.

Create a Legacy.
