« on: February 02, 2008, 01:43:10 PM »
Remington 700 VTR in 308
Nikon Monarch 4x16x42 Mil-dot
Burris Extreme Tactical bases and rings
Federal Classic 150sp
Target @ 100 yards
8-12mph cross wind
Today I was able to get out and try my new rig the wind was a little high but wanted to give it a try.  Total I was able to put 40 rounds through it.
I always way a picture is worth a thousand words, so look on.

Looks like you have a shooter for sure. Is that a 5 shot group? I want one!!!!!!!!! How was the recoil with the brake. Dale

Only a three shot group.  Most of the time I do 5 but it was my last three rounds.

On the break.  I would say recoil is reduced some but not alot.  It seems to help in the muzzle jump more than the recoil.  The noise is more but not as bad as my Browning with the BOSS system.  Overall I think it's going to be a nice rifle.

It is a little hard to tell but I think those are 1" squares so it looks like that group is about 3/4" or a little less. Is that correct? Thanks Dale

Yes, 1 inch squares and maybe a little less than 3/4".  Here is a 5 shot but after the first shot I made a correction so the last four were a little less than 1 inch.

ooks good. When you consider the fact that you are using 150 Factory Ammo & also the barrel will get better with more rounds it is quite good. Most likely the 165-168gr. range will do better yet. If you are a reloader get some good quality brass, Varget & fed match primers with 168MK , Bergers or even NBT to see how it will group, I believe you will be happy as it appears your rifle will be a shooter.

BTW, I like your scope, good choice.

is the noise level bad enough to wear hearing protection while say deer hunting, meaning when shooting only once or twice..

Shot it one time without muffs.  It is a little louder but not my Browning with the BOSS.  I have found that the older I get to less my tolerance is for loud noises so I never shoot on the range without muffs.  I wanted to see how the noise was so I made a one shot test and yes loud but not extremely so.
