I want an auto loader - help!
« on: March 02, 2008, 01:40:35 PM »
I've been a pump kinda guy for over 40 years and want to go to an auto loader.  For only one reason!  My shoulders are really bothering me and I'm afraid someday before long I'll be looking at big problems.  I know a man who abused his shoulder and can't shoot at all any more.  I don't want to end up that way!
To complicate matters, I'm a left hand shooter.  I've been thinking about a Browning Silver or Gold, Remington 11-87 and a Benelli SBE II. I know I can get the SBE II in a left hand model.  I do want to shoot 3 1/2" shells SOMETIMES at turkeys or geese.
I don't know if a lefty has problems shooting the right hand model of the Browning or Remington.  I'm not worried about the hull going across my line of sight; I've shot a Wingmaster for years and that isn't a problem.  I am concerned about gasses and gunk in my eyes.
Many say the Benelli SBE II kicks like a mule compared to a gas operated gun.  Wouldn't make much sense going that route if that's true. I hope some of you can help out a little here.  Thanks,  Jim

I was in a out of the way shop last week and noticed a 12 ga Browning Gold for $450 and a 12 ga Rem 1100 for $375.
I should have not left empty handed

I sold all my shotguns in 12GA and bought a Beretta Extrema 2. I would have to say that I am completely happy with it. I wanted something with a 3.5" chamber which ups the weight and price right away but I love it. It cycles target loads after running in and fits me like a glove, really improved my wing shooting. I took it rabbit hunting for 4 hours on Friday and while it's a tad heavy, very manageable. I would have no hesitation in recommending one of these guns for any type of hunting.

Remington makes (or, at least, made) the 11-87 in a left-hand model in 12 gauge.  I have an 11-87 with which I've been happy, but it does kick hard when using heavy loads.  I just bought an SBE II and so far have only shot light loads through it, but I do not feel them at all.  Really.  The first SBE did kick like a mule, but my SBE II, surprisingly, does not, and it is a sweet gun.
