SIG 1911?
« on: March 04, 2008, 04:47:31 AM »
I am considering adding a 2nd 1911 to my stable.  The one I looked at locally is the SIG two tone C3.  Two local shops have one.  The cheapest of the two is asking $995. Anyone out there have any experience with the SIG 1911 platform, or this C3 in particular?

One difference I see from the SIG site pics is that the beavertail grip safety is blued on both of the ones here locally.  I absolutely love the smoothed slide.  It is the most rounded off smoothed corners I have ever seen on a 1911, and would make a slick carry gun.  I would like the grip to be slightly longer so I can get the last finger on it.  They have a number of different models with various slide and frame sizes.  I don't know if they have a commander sized frame and slide version that has this same smoothed slide, so I dropped them an email.

I'm puzzled on mag capacity.  On the C3 it says mag capacity 7, but says 6+1 in the description.  On their Stainless carry model it says mag capacity 8, and  says 8+1 in the description (see link below).  I'm not sure which one of these is in error.

Larry:  I believe the 'Carry Nitron' model or for that matter, any of their models with a 4.25" barrel is the Commander size.  I couldn't tell if all their magazines come with a finger rest and it wasn't clear about frame size but you are right in that they would make nice smooth carry guns.

Heck, I'd drop them a line directly to be sure.  Mikey.

From handling the C3, it seems like it is a Commander sized slide/barrel with an Officer sized grip.  Maybe it's just me.  I did drop SIG an email yesterday, but have not heard back yet.  I also asked them about negative feedback I was given from Kittery Trading Post.  A sales guy there claimed that SIGs made in Germany are great, but SIGs made in the US are bad.  He went on to claim that US made SIGs account for the largest amount of returns they are seeing with handguns.  I find this hard to believe.  He was trying to sell my buddy a used German made SIG 232 at the time, so maybe it was just sales B.S.  Still, it surprised me that he was putting down the SIG name.  I have a SIG 228 carry gun that is 15 years old and has performed flawlessly.  I have lots of friends with SIGs, and have never heard a complaint.  Sure can't say that about some other manufacturers.

I'll update my post with more info when I hear back from SIG.
