Blackpowder is next to impossible to get here and when I can get it, costs almost as much as smokeless plus a case full of it is needed, so I don't see any advantage considering that issue, I have a few pounds of Goex 3f and about a pound of 4f, like to keep it for the my flinter if I get the urge to shoot black, shooting it in a cartridge gun seems kinda wrong from a traditional viewpoint, blackpowder was only used for a few decades in cartridge guns, but was used in muzzleloaders for a few centuries in comparison.

congrats on#42 a lot of handi's, the best thing i saw was the smaller wood and great wood to receiver fit, maybe all the 08 rifles will have a better wood to steel fit, most all my handi's are about a 1/4" on each side wider than the receiver but after the sell/buy out i think we will loose hr/nef for the Remington brand aka import rifles using the nef name brand, tim that great looking set of wood and case hard frame would make a great 20" 45-70 or 500 cal brush gun ?,

No short barrels for me ro, I just don't see the need, thank you.

The 28" barreled Target is just 3½" longer overall length than my 20" barreled M81 BLR, and it's been it some of the worst jungles you could imagine here in Western Washington, I've never once felt the BLR was too long. The 38-55 is a Target rifle anyway, I'll be shooting it at 300yd targets once I get a load developed for it, I wouldn't wanta mess up that purty stock hunting any way!!

Although I could take it on the antelope hunt this fall if it happens!!

Haven't decided what sights to use yet, thinkin on trying the Smith Long Range sight now that I have a good peep slider for it. I'd like to try a Vernier sight, but that would mean modifiying the stock, not sure I wanta do that. $:-\$

tim, as many handi's as you have i thought you could do a project short rifle with that good looking wood and frame you have, and keep the 38-55 as it is, where i deer hunt most shots are 200 yds or less most being in thick cut-over and brush 50 yds or less, thats why i like short and light guns for hunting, but now i am hard on guns i use them, i have remington 30-06 i bought new about 5 years ago it looks 10-12 years old just from hard use and hunting. anyway good luck with the new 38-55.

Tim midway has Leatherwood Malcom 6X - 30 inch brass tubes for $400.00, precision rear mount $ 228.00, fine adj kit for rear mount $63.00, hope you can find a cheaper source , but I know it would look sharp and maybe even period correct waiting on range reportbest wishes jrhweldon

Boy, I feel really stupid, I started getting erratic readings from my digital caliper, so I put in a new battery, then it occurred to me that maybe when I measured the slug, it may not have been accurate, so I measured it again and got .379" in the groove. .3745" at the lands, so the bore is tighter than older barrels, but not as tight as I thought, so it's back to .380" bullets.

The good news is I can still load a .380" bullet if I crimp heavy with a Lee FCD, the chamber neck is tight right at the end of the Starline 2.125" brass, the crimp allows it to chamber fully. I also went ahead an ordered the Shey Cast .380" Snover bullets, the bore rider design should help with accuracy and not have to be seated so deep.....hopefully!

Thanks Pete, I checked into the traditional scope from Winchester Sutler, sent them an email on the 18th, no reply then called em a couple days ago, didn't get much info from the person I talked to, the scope is supposedly made in California, but no other info about it, asked for a brochure or anything I could learn a little more about the scope or the maker, nothing available, the mounts do require gunsmithing, they aren't a bolt on, but the fact that they chose not to respond to my email really turns me off, after I talked them, I got a reply to my email from "Tom", not much more to share. I just don't feel real comfortable spending $330+ on a product that I can't get more info on, so it ain't gonna happen.

Thanks! Got one more hurdle crossed, the seater plug that comes with the cowboy die set doesn't fit the ogive of any of the bullets I want to load, I called RCBS and they don't have one that will fit eiither, he recommended I spend $20 for a custom seater plug, well heck with that!! I have almost 30 die sets, so I started checking, a Hornady 375H&H seater die works perfect for the bullets I have so far and will also work with the Snover bullet, so that's covered, whew!!
