G2 Barrel on Older Contender Frame?

There is great information here regarding the many things you can do with Contenders and Encores.  I am a complete newb wrt these guns, however, and there is a very basic question that I have, which I haven't been able to find by searching and browsing:

Will G2 barrels mount on older contender frames?

I'm looking to buy my first Contender, and want to make sure I don't limit myself on barrel availability. If I have to go G2 to fit G2 barrels, how do I tell what is a G2 frame?

G2 barrels will fit on Contender frames, except possibly for the very early ones that used flat bottom lug barrels.  Those may not have enough clearance for the stepped bottom lug barrels of today.  The only thing that may need to be done is changing out the locking lugs, which I believe you can get for free from the factory if there is a problem.

 generally speaking.....yes. but....there may be minor issues on some combinations at times i hear. all that is needed then is fitting of the locking bolts to that particular frame. TC may fit/supply them, or maybe you can do yourself.

the G2 frame is completely different than the old models. there should be no confusion there. the G2 looks like a mini encore action with gussets, whereas the old models have etched/engraved sides with a cougar head, or "leaping cougar". more rare model old frames can be "flat sides" that have a smooth finish though.

Yup,

I have 2 late model production G2 barrels that fit and lock up perfect on my early "Pre-easy Open" frame. Some may require a little fitting, but mine didn't.
