FUR PRICES ON THE RISE>
« on: March 06, 2008, 05:03:46 AM »
Well it is about time, prices on many types of fur are on the way up.
Coon are one of the hottest items, along with grey fox and bobcat.Otter and muskrats moved well on the last NAFA auction.Prices on otter are way below 2 or 3 years ago,but are close to prices paid before the otter boom
Higher fuel prices may actually work to our benefit. Many trappers give up on trapping ,because of gas costs.Less competition for the rest of us,also less fur produced.
Increased fur prices, are more than offsetting increased fuel prices.

IF furprices   hold up is the big question. If mink were like years ago $25  straight thru for females and $50 straight thru for males from county buyers it would be nice too.

These prices are going to create a lot of "buzz".  Like with rats 2 years ago, couldn't find a decent used stoploss trap anywhere.  This year, good luck finding lil griz, 160's and 1 1/2 coils better get them now.  Along with all your permissions.
Hopefully, higher fur prices will get more young folks excited and into the sport, no just the fair-weather folks.

It has always been this way with every market no matter if it's fur or corn. Prices goes up old people come back out new people jump in. Those of us who have been trapping something every year just keep riding the waves.
As for equipment when the rat talk got hot I unloaded all my stoploss traps that I was looking to change out. Couldn't have been happier with the money I got for them. If you have used coon traps to get rid of. Get them sorted out and ready, if the buzz takes off. Sell Them!
