10/22 accracey expectations

I'm ready to trade in my Nylon 22 for something else as it only holds a 2" at 50 yards.

What could I expect from an unmodified  out of the box 10/22 at 50 and 100 yds?

Any other 22 self loader suggestions in the 10/22 price range

montveil, it's only a suggestion, but have you tried a variety of ammo? Many .22s are very particular about the brand that they shoot best. Also, with iron sights, it may be hard to hold better than 2", at least without a scope. I'd try a good cleaning, and a bunch of other ammo before I'd get rid of that rifle. Most 10/22s are more accurate than that, at least mine all have been.  Good luck

With a factory standard barrel don't expect much better than 2 inch's, now if you go with the target model or one of the many after market barrels they should get you closer to 1 inch at 50 yards, that is if you are not using match grade ammo.

I recently tested a green mountain bentz chamber heavy target barrel on my 10/22 action with 13 different loads (from Remington, Winchester, CCI,  Aguala ((not sure if that is proper spelling on that)), Federal) from standard velocity to high velocity and two match grades, Eley and Federal. The vast majority shot between 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 inch. I had one make that shot at a inch (the cheapest brand by the way which was Winchester wild cat). The match ammo from  Eley shot 3/4 and Federal shot into 5/8. These were all 5 shoot groups.

I have yet to test the better performers at 100 yards as it has been much to windy to get a good idea of what the ammo is capable of. Now my squirrel rifle is a Ruger 77/22 target gray, it will shoot minute of squirrel's head at 85 yards using Federal Gold Metal Match AKA 711B.

If that is a Remington Nylon 66 .22 I will trade you a 10/22 for it!!
Try Winchester T22 and Winchester wildcats.   They cycled good.

Either I got a good one or niles got a bad one because I was shooting 10 shot groups with my Simmons scoped 10/22 you could cover with a quarter.  And that was before I tricked out the trigger group.   I won many a dead mark match with that old Ruger. Of course I practiced with that old Ruger a lot, several hundred rounds a month for several years at one time.  Not so much any more do to time restraints.
