Optimal barrel length
« on: March 02, 2008, 01:10:19 PM »
I was wondering if you all could guide me to a web sight or just tell me if you know, what the optimal barrel length and possibly rifling twist would be for a 3006 and a 204 ruger. I will be getting one of the two shortly but not sure of all the details of the different barrel lengths and twist rate.

Some people are having good luck with 15" barrels in the 3006. I have shot them they are a hand full the one I have is 24"and I like it. The 204 if you go to the bullberry sight there is a article By Fred Smith about the 204 where he would shoot cut the barrel, re crown shoot again I think he went around 10 or 12 inches and said 22 inches was the best.
