Ruger Old Army - discontinued
« on: January 04, 2008, 06:01:12 PM »
It's official, the Old Army is done. If you go to the Ruger website, they are still listed, but the prices say discontinued.

Why? I suppose they're trying to get inventory and costs under control. But it's a damn shame.

Someone related on another board how Bill Ruger claimed the ROA would always be offered, 'cause he just liked it. True or not, Bill's gone and now so is the revolver.

Yea, I just acquired my second one. Another move that would make Bill turn over in his grave.

To bad , ROA ,Black hawk ,vaquero and the mark 2 are my favorite Rugers.
This is a really stupid idea , I have noticed the Gov. taking an interest in BP arms lately.

Do you guys think Ruger would sell the rights to this gun to some other company ?
I read that Marlin has almost talked FNH ,into selling them Winchester ,That would be great.

I was wheeling and dealing with a guy trying to trade off my ROA on a nice varmint scope when I heard Ruger was dropping the ROA I just wrote the guy a check for the scope and am keeping the ROA!
They are a great gun but if Ruger is not making money on them I cannot see another company making them and making a profit

That is true ,But look at all the company's FNH owns ,I never thought i would see Beretta build a SSA.
No one is going to build the Old Army , it would be nice though.

DOGONIT!
That is the one gun that I've lusted for for over 20 years, but I've always "put it on the back burner" and probably bought and sold a hundred others in the meantime.  I won't be passing one up anymore!  Glad I saw this thread.

All good things come to pass I guess. I have enough ROAs to last me, but not enough parts. I am looking for a pair of 5 1/2 Ram levers in stainless now. I want to trim them down, since I do not use a ram most of the time and the nubs that hold the ram look pretty ugly just sitting there with nothing to do. I guess I will just live with it. The pistols stay holstered most of the time anyway.
I can remember when ROAs were compared to Edsels, but over the years the danged things hold up and they shoot great, not to mention nearly every trick you can do to an old 3 screw you can do to the Old Army too.
Maybe it is time to take another look at my 58 Remmies. Ol' Flint showed me his with the coil spring hammer and other mods and just maybe they can be tricked out to shoot like a ROA......................nawwww. :)
