savage 99 in .243

hey guys at last gunshow i went to i passed up a 99 in .243. gun was very nice shape, minor blemish on metal of action, other than that i would of rated it 90 percent condition or better. guy was private collector and offered it to me at 350$. no scope or mounts. was a nicer gun than most ive seen in that cal. did i do wrong?

Whether you "did right" or not depends on your needs and your "likes & dislikes".

The Savage Model 99 is a fine rifle, no doubt about that.  Some folks love the .243 for antelope and deer hunting... some don't.

But one thing is for SURE... the price was "right"!  Even though I'm NOT a .243 "fan", I think I would have bought it for that price... just to play with it.  You can NEVER have too many Model 99's, ya know.    :wink:

There is certainly nothing wrong with the 243Win or the Savage M99.I've had many 243 lever actions.I just sold a Win M88,and a Savage M99C in 243Win.I still have a Browning BLR-81 and a Sako Finnwolf in 243Win.I rank it right along with my 250 Savage(M99EG) and my 257 Roberts(Browning BLR-81) as a good pronghorn and deer round.
