.30 caliber encore
« on: January 18, 2008, 04:27:25 PM »
what is the most powerfull barrel I can buy that shoots a 308 caliber projectile.  I just got off the phone with JDJ or SSK industries and they stated that they would not make a lazzeroni barrel for me.  So what is the fastest safe barrel I can get.  I hope not the 300 winmag.

The custom barrel manufacturers are probably not going to chamber a barrel for a proprietary cartridge.  Also, if the cartridge diameter is too big or the accepted operating pressure is too high like the Ultramags, they're not going to make a barrel with that chambering either.  I would suspect that the hottest .308 caliber Encore barrel you're going to get anyone to make will be the 300 Weatherby and not all custom barrel makers will do that (though I suspect SSK Industries would).

I would think at some point there would be no gain ballisticly with the larger cartridges because of the short barrel length. I can't see much gain after 300 Win Mag.

Paul, what LENGTH barrel are you looking for? The belts seem to cause a few problems with the Encore so maybe a case based on the 375 Ruger necked to 308 can be had. I would not want this beast in a handgun, but a 20 or 22" rifle would be considered.

I am looking for a 26 inch barrel on my encore.  I have a 308 lazzeroni already but looking to sell it.

This is the handgun forum, and you will get better mileage if you want to discuss rifle length barrels on the rifle forum.  Also, discussion of sales or want to buy need to be done on a classified forum.

I am lost, first no one has said that they want to buy anything.  I did how ever ask a question about a thompson center product.  That is all, "information".  Secondly this is the Thompson Center area.  I think this would be the perfect thing to discuss here.  To see if someone has more information on a product that is under the correct board than I do.     Again----------- I am wanting to know what is the most powerfull barrel I can buy that shoots a 308 caliber projectile.  I just got off the phone with JDJ or SSK industries and they stated that they would not make a lazzeroni barrel for me.  So what is the fastest safe barrel I can get.  I hope not the 300 winmag.

Read your post just prior to mine.  I am looking to buy...  I have to sell...   Looks a lot like a classified ad to me, and they are not allowed on a discussion forum.  If I hadn't said anything and there was a response I would have had to remove the posts.  Apparently you weren't trying to buy and sell and you would have lost the chance to do what you wanted to do.

Also, this is a TC handguns forum.  Many of us read both lists, but there are others that just read the TC rifle forum found in the rifles section.  By rights I should have removed the thread as off topic and re-located it there.  I didn't, but did suggest you may get better and more rifle answers on the rifle forum.  I still suggest you ask this question there.

Prebanpaul,

I hope you are searching for a rifle barrel.  I have found the 30-06 Springfield is the best for 30 caliber rifle barrel.  I have a 24" standard taper rifle barrel and has performed excellent for me.  Many years ago, I have found speed doesn't mean much to me.  I concentrate on correct bullet placement instead of how fast the bullet arrives for all my hunting.  I won't use a belted magnum in the Encore, they cause for trouble then they are worth.

I use the 7mm-08 Remington for my 15" Encore big game pistol and it is perfect for all my needs.

I think you need to look at a bolt action for the .308 caliber speed you desire.

Thank you,
