Finnaly figured out what I was doing wrong.
« on: March 17, 2008, 11:10:15 AM »
Finally got my TC Renegade 50 shooting great this weekend. Before I was using .018 pillow ticking patches lubed with wonder lube and 50 to 70gr charges of Pyro P. It shot ok but I would get some nasty fliers that really wrecked my confidence in the gun. Well this weekend I went to the range didnt have any patches so had to get some store bought ones that are lubed with wonder lube at .015. With my .490 Hornady RB's.
Well that made a world of difference. I was using a 50grn Pyro P load with the store bought patches and it was shooting about 1 1/2" groups at a hundred yards. I fired about 20 rounds with out so much as wiping the bore with a spit patch. The last round was almost as easy to load as the first. Need less to say I am really happy that I got her sorted out. Cant wait to take it out coyote busting now that I know she shoots where it is supposed to.

I hear you, they are all different. My 58 cal GM Renegade mounted barrel would group a couple then fliers with .570 RB, .018 ticking patch and  90 grain ffg. Switched to .20 patches and lost the fliers. Nothing wrong with the .018 patches, my 54 cal loves them but this 58 cal barrel doesn't.

WOW, Saloon Slug, 1 & 1/2" groups at 100 yards with RBs is EXCELLENT!  Good shooting.  You got a scope on that thing?

Nope just the TC iron sights. I really like them the front blade is easy to see and lines up well in the rear sight notch. Now that I have it figured out I will have to play with the powder charge to see how fast I can drive it and still be minute of deer. The 50 grain load will work great for coyotes and ground squirrels and was real pleasant to shoot.
