Marlin Cross-bolt Safety - What Year?
« on: March 08, 2008, 12:30:45 PM »
Although I'm really interested in when Marlin added this to the 39A rimfire and not the center fire, I figure it was probably about the same time and that someone here sill knoe.  Thanks in advance.  -WSJones

1983 is the year most often given.

I bought a 1983 vintage 1894 in .22 Magnum this weekend.  It has the Cross-bolt Safety.

They may have used up existing stocks of parts when the switch was made.  My 1982 Glenfield 30A doesn't have the CBS.  I don't care for the CBS much, but it's not a big deal for me either.

Swampman:  It doesn't bother me that much either but I'm semi-searching for a 39A and if I can get a nice one without the CBS all the better.  I've an 1895 45-70 with it and a 336 35 Rem without.  -WSJones
