Misfire...I thought!

Yesterday while out shooting my new 17HMR I had a first.  Squeezed off a shot and nothing.  I thought @#$@$ don't tell me this thing is going to start with light firing pin strikes after only about 30 rounds...  Opened the chamber and kicked out a spent casing ? ? Well $%$^,,, I thought I had reloaded after that last shot.  Picked up a live round and it would not chamber...   Looked down the barrel and low and behold I see the ass end of a bullet stuck in the throat.  Thanks goodness it was not a little further down.  That's my first Squib in a 17HMR.  Ammunition was Hornady 17gr V-MAX.  Apparently no powder in that one and just enough from the primer to get the bullet out of the casing, but fortunately no further.  Have any of you experienced this in your dealing with 17 ammo?   I've  had misfires in 22's before, but I've never had a bullet actually leave the casing and get stuck in the barrel.

Never happened here . Good reminder though to make sure you check the bbl for obstruction on misfire. kurt

Never had it happen, but I'd sure give Hornady a call and let em know about it, maybe they'll want the lot number of the ammo, might even be some free ammo in it for ya for your trouble.

Always warm welcomes here.  Welcome aboard my friend.  I have never had a squib load from the factory, I would def. give Hornady a ring.  If not for anything else, just to listen to their answering service.   Plus you may prevent an unfortunate mishap to a future shooter.  I 'll watch for the recall.

Thanks guys for the warm welcome.  Handy Andy, I do believe you and I share the same profession only I'm still at.  I'm a patrol sergeant with the local PD.  I'm a Police Firearms instructor for handgun, shotgun, patrol rifle, select fire rifle and sniper rifle.  Enjoying my new interest in the NEF rifles.

Hi HandiAndy, and the answer is yes I even did much of what you are doing now (32.5 years). In my retired life I am a Criminal Investigator for the local District Courts (3) for the Public Defenders Office. My buddies still on the job say I have gone to the dark side. Not really, I still only seek the truth, and I am still paid by the state. Enjoy it while your there, all to soon the job ends....<><....
