new vise

  yesterday cabin fever got the best of me and i took a road trip to cabelas.  bought a bunch of flying stuff and also a new vise.  i got a renzetti traveler, and boy is it nice tying on one of these rotary vises!!!!  anyone looking for a rotary, all i can say is a big thumbs up; and it is made in america as well.  i am ticked pink with it.

that is a nice rig, id say if yu use it for about 20 yrs, the price per year will be pretty low.thats a family heirloom

that is a great point.  it is a very well made piece of equipment.  i have been using a vise i bought when i was about 12 and as much tying as i do i figured it was time for an upgrade.

     I got a small kit when I was about 12 and it had a little vise with a little bracket on the bottom with a thumb screw to hook to the table top and on the business end it had set of crude little jaws with a small bolt and wing nut.  You held the hook in place with one hand and screwed down the wing nut with the other.  Hey....it worked...for quite a while too!  Man, did I tie some gosh awful looking creations in that thing.  But, you know, the bluegills in the neighbors pond were offinded at all.    And the chickens wouldn't come near me in those days.
    I like the looks of that new equipment....Yes sir!

Thats a nice looking vise! I recently upgraded to a Griffen Blackfoot Mongoose vise. Its so much nicer to use than my old "plain jane" vise. This reviews on this link helped me pick a vise.

how do you like the mongoose?   i have to say tying on a rotary vise is sooooo much nicer.

I've been very happy with it. I don't have much experience with other rotary vises to compare it to. Like you said, it makes tying a lot easier. I didn't realize how limited I was with my old vises.
