Was reading the posts on thread about survival kits and bug-out bags.
I was surprised that no one mentioned the need to pack and carry work gloves in a survival/bug out situation.
And I'd recommend that one carry two or three or a half dozen pairs per person. Certainly able-bodied males. Especially if you were planning to bug out from a hurricane or twister or earthquake scenario.
I'm not recommending that you have extra gloves for people who don't have them, but rather if you had to clean up a home after a fire or tornado or hurricane ......
HOW LONG DO YOU THINK ONE PAIR OF LEATHER WORK GLOVES WOULD LAST, if you're moving and handling broken glass? Sharp metal? Heavy debris? etc. etc.
Am I saying to be a little selfish? Perhaps!
But remember to pack ENOUGH work gloves for disaster-aftermaths, AND DON"T GIVE THEM AWAY!
By all means remember to include insulated gloves to keep your hands warm in the winter - along with wool caps.
But don't overlook work gloves in scenarios where you might be cleaning up and rescuing people after a disaster. Afterall, how effective would you be if your hands are torn up or in shreds after trying to rescue a loved one?
