LEE mallet loaders ????
« on: March 11, 2008, 07:36:25 AM »
Hey yall I have one of the lee hammer type loaders and was wondering I have loaded a few shells from my rifle and now they will not chamber. You can push the bolt forward but it will not rotate closed without ALOT of force. Everything appears to be within specs. When I remove the bullet there are a few marks on the case but they are the full length of the case so I am assuming it is not anything with the case (behind the shoulder) Now with that being said... the type of sizing these loaders do is neck size only correct????  Oh this is for a 7.62x54r mosin nagant 9130. Thanks for the info in advance. Stu

the lee loader is a neck sizer only. since you mention this is for a mosin nagant i have a question or 2. first, have you shot this brass in your rifle before? i have one nagant and have experience with a few others. i had the same type of problem as you do with one of mine. the rims on the brass were too thick for the extractor to snap over, it is a common problem with there rifles as i have found out. on mine i couldnt lock the bolt closed without a rubber mallet. unfortunately rim thickness from one brand to another is not consistent. if you have shot this brass before then there should be no problems, but if this is the case i would suggest you get a full length sizer die to negate this problem. second, do you have the bulets seated far enough so you are not jamming them into the lands? that could also be the problem.

I loaded a lot of ammo on a lee loader but you do have to make sure that either you are loading brass fired in your rifle or brass that your bolt will close on for the first shot.  If the brass will not chamber before you put it in the lee loader it will not after you load the round.
