I happened upon an estate sale a few weeks back and they had a few guns still left for sale. Wish I would have gotten there earlier cause this guy had a smokin collection and everything was for sale including hunting gear, truck, house, tools you name it....
Anyway, the only thing left by the time I got their that caught my eye was brand new Kimber 84M Montana in 338 fed. The man of the house had apparently died unexpectedly and his wife had a house full of people buying everything that wasn't nailed down. There was no price on the Kimber and few other guns still left so I asked, how much for the funny looking plastic gun with the silver bbl? She says...hows $300 sound?
I could not reach for my check book fast enough........... Not sure what the issue was but she had the whole thing planned out to the point she had a local FFL dealer at the estate sale. When I was filling out the paper work ($65), he jokingly said to me, I really want to charge you $500 for this transfer.......He told me that they started with 37 guns. By the time I arrived there only 4 remaining. Do the math on that. 37 guns * $65 for the transfer.....$2,405. However, in Cal if you buy more then one gun at the same time its still $65.
We have a 10 day waiting period here in Cal so I got the gun and took it to the range yesterday. At 5pounds 1 ounce (not including scope & mounts) its amazing..... I threw on a VX2 3-9x40 and got it bore sighted. What a tack-driver. Off the bench with some real good support, I can lay a quarter over the groups with factory ammo!!!! Action is smooth and with the scope on it looks pretty darn good.
I don't know what I'm going to use it for. I wanted a 338 but I don't feel the 338 fed is enough gun for my griz hunt next year. SO I will still be needing that 338 Mag, RUM or 375 Ruger or RUM. I may just take this on my Idaho black bear hunt coming up in late May. Was planning on using my 30-06....
For $300 I just could not pass it up. Extremely nice rifle, feather lite, but I do wish it was anyone of the other calibers this thing comes in like a 260 or 257.
