anniversary blackhawk suggestions
« on: March 13, 2008, 01:13:37 PM »
i bought it tonight...very much like this gun. it's got a serial number in the 4,000 range, so not like a collector. so....i am going to shoot it. a lot. will the gold hold up to oiling it and cleaning it? also, is there any reason i should not use it like i want to? any modifications would be bad for value but i am not really interested in resale value anyway.

am i crazy?

also, they had an old model vaquero, stainless, in .45 colt, brand new for $479...might go buy it before someone else does...

You'd only be crazy if you didn't want to shoot it, a lot!

You will enjoy that Vaquero also!  If I owned (but I don't.... yet!) a flat top, the first thing I would do to it would be cut the barrel to at least 4 5/8".  That is the easiest to do with the least amount of work.  BUT if you REALLY want a sweet handling single action, cut the barrel to 4".  It's more costly as you have to also shorten the ejector and houseing and re-loacate the stud, but a single action cut that way is just plain sweet!  I had a round butted Ruger 45 with a 4" barrel and loved it.  That would be the first, and probably only thing I would do with a flat top.  44 Man

they are both already 4 5/8" so i am good to go.

I do want to find some grips for the vaquero though. the wood ones are boring.
