I came up with this idea yesterday but don't know if it can be done for a economical price

Have the gunsmith drill and tap the front and rear to accept a picatinny weaver-style rail mount (don't know which rifle model to use). You can then put a weaver-style red dot on it near the back but not to the point the bolt gets in the way.
You could also use that rail and use an exention style weaver ring at the front of the rail that should provide enough eye relief for a pistol scope.

This would let you use the rifle at both short and long range. I'd put the red dot on for deer hunting but would consider the pistol scope should I go elk hunting where shots are over 100 yards.
It's fairly cost effective b/c there isn't a whole lot of gunsmithing work to be done. And it solves the problem of me not wanting a scout scope on the rifle.

What do you think of this idea and ease to which it could be done?

thanks

Easier and more cost efficient to purchase a scout type mount that replaces the rear sight ladder.

The more I listen,the more I hear....and vice versa.

45/70..it's almost a religion.
