G-2 notes and thoughts
« on: July 10, 2003, 06:22:22 AM »
Okay, after my exited anoucement that I found a G-2 here in Slat Lake City yesterday. I decided that I needed to slow down and look at this with an open mind. Trying to put the thoughts of my friends frame from Mon, out of my mind. So here it goes.
Initial reaction, about the same as Mon. fit and finish not bad. Somewhat of an excessive gap around the triggerguard, but other than that everything else looks good. New shape on the forearm that I like. Grip is nice and fills the palm well. The new angle of the grip does improve the point of the frame, but seems to move the trigger forward. This puts the trigger right under the first pad of the trigger finger, not bad for me but for someone that has smaller hands this could be a problem. This could be the reason for the curve in the trigger. The trigger gaurd is smaller. This seems like a potential problem for larger calibers.
The first barrel I tried was a 10" .223 early type IV. lock up took force. In my mind excesive force. Hammer pull is horrible, at least twice that of a contender, but the action did at least function. The next barrel was a 16"300 wisper type IV. lock up was ok but leverage from the longer barrel helped. Hammer pull was still bad. Third barrel a 10" 30 herret type III. lock up not bad. Hammer pull still bad. Fourth Barrel 10" 256 win. type III. NO GO. The next barrel was a 22" 17 hornet from Bullberry. Lock up was the best, but again was this leverage from the longer barrel?
Im not sure, hammer pull still was bad. The last barrel tried was a 6" .233 type IV that I had cut. It fit but lockup was extremly difficult. Hammer pull was the same. Thats as far as I have gone, as soon as I get more time I will continue to update. I didnt proof this sorry for any typos. norm

What does that little 6 incher do?  Sounds very interesting, although I bet it is really loud.
....make it count

Hay Norm, does the G-2 come with the same info about dry firing as the encore?

Palidin I have gone through the manual and dry firing is not really talked about. It does say that the manual firing pin selector switch, may be used as a secondary saftey. It also states that if you decide not to fire after cocking to switch the selector to the neutral position then use your thumb to lower the hammer. On page 11 is this warning. G2 contender triggers are factory set. No adjustment should be required or attempted. Alterration of the trigger spring or use of a non factory spring can create a dangerous trigger pull.  Love those lawyers. norm

Robert I have several 6" barrels. The only pleasant one to shoot is the .22 long rifle. But the others can cook and kill at the same time. The flame from the .233 and the 30-30 are incredible. Still havent shot the .300 wishper yet, I barely put it on a frame yesterday. Tried it on the G-2 to see if it worked, Then put it on the frame the waters came off of. norm
