FAQ's of the reloader

Hey stimpy mjbgalt .... I was just wondering if yall had ever thought of making a sticky or a locked topic for the FAQ's of reloading. Maybe you could call it ... Questions from the new Answers from the old .... or Questions from the new Answers from the Wise which ever you choose ... I just thought this might be good for the new reloader as I know personally that the questions I have I have been able to find most by searching but some are hard to find so it would be nice to have one place to go and find alot of the answers.

My question to start of is ... How does you choose which powder/bullet combo you are going to use. I mean with all the different loads combo you see in the manuals ... which one. I understand that price is alot especially with bullets but to me it doesnt seem to factor in as much with powder so how do you decide. I know I just told you that i went with 100 gr corelokts and h4831 for my 25-06 and the only reason i went with that was reading success stories on the net. But for someone just lookin at the manual how do you decide.

Hopefully this topics and hopefully some more questions will help out the new reloader and maybe even help out some of the old...eeerrrrrr wiser  reloaders.  Hey seriously thought thanks for all of your help to all of you that give your knowledge day in and day out on here.    Stu, I'm not the " wealth of experience" your looking for but I'll start it off.  When I started loading for my 30-06 I  bought "The Complete Reloading Manual for the 30-06 Springfield" for less than $ 7.00 .  It contains 3,886 loads,  155 bullets, & 81 different  powders.  I looked for something in common with the bullet weights I wanted to use & that turned out to be IMR 4350.  So that's  the powder I started loading with.  I have since branched out to other powders but IMR 4350 is still one of my favorite loads.

   Since your on the "net" you can find "tons" of loads & information without even spending the $7.00.  You can check the bullet companies & see what powders they recommend  or you can check the powder companies & see what bullets they suggest & all of it is right up to date.

   Pick a load, start @ the bottom, shoot your rifle, keep records & dial it all in until you get the groups you want.  Then do it all over again with the next rifle you "just can't live without" !

   You'll find a world of information on this thread, much more than I can provide, so enjoy loading, happy shooting & above all - ALWAYS  BE  SAFE !!  Jim   ;

Sorry it took so long to get to this , I've been out of town . I like the idea , the only down side that i see is that very rarely do people have the same problems , there are just so many things that could cause a problem , Like my rounds will not chamber ? well that could be caused by say , COL being too long , the shoulder is too far forward , brass is too long , chamber is out of round , you get the idea .

What we could do is start a topic of Q & A's and add something like a check list of the most common possible causes and fixes , let me know what you think .

When loading for a new rifle round I always chose a powder that will have the case over 75% full. I also load on a Dillon press so I like to stick with ball powders, but if you weight each charge you would have no reason to do that.
