Ithaca Model 37 dissassembly
« on: March 30, 2008, 02:50:38 AM »
A family member GAVE me a 12 gauge Model 37 Featherlight last weekend.  He said he bought it 20 or 25 years ago and shot approx. ONE box of shells through it.  It looks to be in very good condition.  The bluing on the barrel is mint, the receiver is in mint condition also.  My problem starts when it comes to the disassembly.  I know how to get the barrel off, and I know how the trigger group comes out, but how do you remove the forearm?  I can see a small amount of surface rust on the magazine tube, but cannot get to it with the forearm in place.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If I remember right there is a pin in the bolt. You have to take out the 4 screws on the back sides of the receiver and you will see the pin through the hole. it comes out pretty easy with a small punch. Just going from memory but I'm pretty sure that's what you need to look for.    Good luck.   Word of advise. pay attention were everything goes. I make enough money putting guns together for people that couldn't remember were all the parts went that I just bought a new 11-87.

You used to be able to download a a dis-assembly procedure on-line. But I think the key to getting the forearm off is in the bolt itself. Once the barrel is off and the nut on the magazine tube is screwed off, slide the spring and follower out. Now partially close the action and flip the gun over so you are looking at the bottom of the bolt. Take a small flat bladed screw driver and there should be a spring loaded plunger on the bolt that you just have to slide away from slide arm. As you hold it over I think you can just pull the arm out. I'm doing this from memory but I'm pretty sure that's it. There shouldn't be any pins to drive out or anything. It's a great shotgun and should give you a lifetime of fun.
