Does any company make steel bases for the Handi-rifle? My 500 S&W is really hard on the aluminium bases.

Not that I'm aware of, all bases are listed in the FAQs, you might look at better rings, I don't have a problem with the Leupold PRWs on my 500. ;)

The built in 20moa base would be great for long range shooting, but would use up a lot of adustment for normal .500 Handi hunting, might work ok if the contour matches the 1.1XX" barrel. Good rings would cost a whole lot less at about $40 installed, no gunsmith required. ;)

Thanks for the information. I'm using the Burris Zee rings at this time ,being steel they seem real solid.

I've not had a problems with the Signature Zees, but the Leupold rings are much better, the cross bolt on the Burris rings is only a #6, but the lug on the PRW/QRW is a very substantial piece of steel, not a small screw, it pretty much fills the cross slot, it's square, not round. ;)

Warne makes two steel bases for H&Rs, the Maxima Tactical M681M(pictured) and the standard Weaver style M981M(pic coming). The Tactical comes with t-15 torx head screws.
