H&R Dbl Brl Hammer Guns

Here's some pics of a couple H&R Shotguns you don't see very often:
These were introduced circa 1909 and produced up to around 1920, or so.  Not many seen today.

I think the fall 2007 Double Gun Journal as a really nice write up on H&R doubles it is worth looking at even if you don't like high falutin' magazines like this one.

My computer won't show the pictures, which is very frustrating. I just picked up one of these at a gun show today. It's a 26" 28ga double, sidelock, outside hammer.

The top rib is marked 28GA.CHOKE. Barrel and breech have matching #1916. The left sidelock is marked HARRINGTON & RICHARDSON ARMS CO.
           WORCESTER MASS..US.A..PAT.FEB.27.00

The action is tight, but the forearm iron has been repaired/replaced.

I got it for $100 and an Enfield .38 revolver. I'm pretty happy with it.

The pictures showed up today. That's exactly what I bought, except with 26" barrels, not shortened. Thanks for the information. Sure would like to find one of the rifles, too.

You got a great buy on that 28 ga. at $100, even with repairs.  I don't know of any rifled versions.  There are no catalogue references to commercial H&R rifles of ANY KIND until after WW2.  During WW2, H&R made some of Eugene Reising's designed semi-auto (M60) and full auto .45 ACP carbines (M40, M50, M55) and some semis in .22lr (M65) for military training rifles.  After the war, H&R continued production of the semis and eventually began producing bolt action and single shot break actions, as well.

It turns out that it's not quite the buy I thought. In looking at 28ga reloading equipment and loads, I ran across a reference to early 2 1/2" loads. Sure enough, this gun has 2 1/2" chambers. Looks like handloading for sure. Any idea where I can get a 28ga roll crimper?

I have one in the 44 cal. ,that at some point was rechambered for the .410 gauge. I was once told that H&R would rechamber these gun for free.
